Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Do I have to come to both days of auditions?
A: YES!
Q: What do I need to bring to auditions?
A: Your completed audition packet--make sure to list all conflicts you have with the rehearsal calendar. And most importantly--a smile and positive attitude! Also - if you need to take the activity bus home after rehearsals, you will need to bring that form to the main office before school!
Q: How should I prepare for auditions?
A: Pick up an audition packet, which are located outside the drama room. Review the list of characters posted on the board and consider parts you might consider. The more familiar you are with the characters, the better your audition will be. Make sure to bring your filled out audition sheet to auditions. This will show the director you are dedicated and hardworking.
Q: When are rehearsals?
A: Monday through Wednesday from 3:30-4:45.
Q: I have conflicts with rehearsal schedule. What should I do?
A: Major conflicts with the rehearsal schedule does impact casting. Make sure to be honest and clearly list the conflicts on your audition sheet. We are able to work around many conflicts for some parts!
Q: I only want to be in the play if I get a lead role. Is that okay?
A: Yes. There is a spot on the audition form where you can say what role you are interested in. If you only want a lead (or only want a non-speaking role), please write it on the form. Be honest about what you want, but know that it may narrow your chances of being cast.
Q: What grades do I need to have to be in the play?
A: Students must have all C's and above to be in a Poynter Players production. If you struggle with grades, you should focus on your school work and audition another time.
Q: I auditioned and I thought I did great. Why didn't I get cast?
A: All actors experience not being cast--it is an unfortunate reality of doing theater! Don't let it get you down, and don't give up! Keep practicing your acting, and audition for the next play. Also, there are still many ways for you to be involved in the play--you can be part of the costume crew, prop crew, makeup crew, set construction crew, or backstage crew. (Little known secret--being part of the tech crew is a blast!)
Q: Is there a bus to take me home after rehearsal?
Yes, you can sign up to take the activity bus home at 5:00. Forms are available in our main office. However, tech week rehearsals run until 6:30pm, and the bus is not available at that time. You will have to arrange for transportation that week.
